Miss usa North Dakota Live : To properly fly a plane, there must be a balance between lift and gravity, thrust and drag. One must balance scanning the expansive horizon, with monitoring the aircraft’s instruments. To live well, there must be a balance between work and fun, office hours and home time. One must aim for the future, yet live in the moment. This balance, a thin line of equilibrium, is hard to achieve and takes constant determination – but it is a goal Amanda continuously strives for.

The first time Amanda took control of an aircraft was through the Civil Air Patrol program, an auxiliary of our United States Air Force. She was 14 when her dreams had literally taken flight. As a child, she would jump on her trampoline and imagine soaring through the air. As an adolescent, she was convinced that she could look out the window and get paid for it. Now, as an Honors student at the University of North Dakota, she is determined to one day be VP of a major airline.

The moment she pushed full throttle was the moment she moved forward with her ambitions: to better herself, and to better the circumstances of those around her. To reach these goals, Amanda incorporated her organization Reach Out to Outreaches ( into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with approximately 1,000 documented hours of volunteer service and thousands of dollars raised. She works tirelessly to improve the lives of individuals from all walks of life. The far-reaching impact of this vision creates unity, compassion, and a greater understanding of circumstances beyond our own.

A few of her most-known projects include: planning and hosting the community event, “Reach Out – Harvest Festival” (an introduction to local outreaches with fun games and upbeat entertainment), starting FAB: Find A Book initiative (hiding books in needy areas for children to find an unexpected gift), recruiting members for MPowered (a nonprofit performance group, where she played piano/guitar and acted as dance captain), and quite possibly her favorite, piloting Angel Flights (transporting medical patients to out-of-area hospitals). From playing with children on the floor and caroling Christmas tunes at outreach shelters, to flying medical patients and acting as Cadet Commander of her Civil Air Patrol Squadron, what started off as a simple dream has turned into a way of life.

Amanda wants to advocate for teens to seek a balance in life. Her ultimate goal is to stimulate teens across the country to use their unique talents, skills, and knowledge to volunteer in their communities…not just today, but through tomorrow, making volunteerism a part of their lives. Flight acts as her balance between service and self; it’s a journey she willingly makes every time she accepts an Angel Flight mission. She promotes that everyone has 24 hours in a day.

24 hours to grow, to learn, to change, and to impact. It’s up to you to “book” your minutes wisely – challenge your limits, climb past boundaries, and grasp opportunities. With a passion for life and a heart for others, you can “fly high”.

Amanda also minors in International Business and Cyber Security, while participating in UND’s music department for piano. She also stays involved in other ways around her campus, including competing through the Chess Club, conversing at the Chinese Club, performing at sporting events as a member of UND’s Dance Team, and negotiating as a select council member of SAAC – Student Aviation Advisory Council.

Outside of school, she is proud to not only wear combat boots as a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol (USAF Auxiliary), but also high heels as a New York Fashion Week model.

Amanda is a self-titled coffee lover, movie addict, and papercut survivor that is passionate about life. She is excited to represent her wonderful state throughout her year of reign and is ready to wear “North Dakota” across her heart on the national Miss Teen USA stage.
